ASSAf participates in KwaZulu-Natal workshops

ASSAf participated in workshops that were held in Mbazwana, KwaZulu-Natal during May 2017.

Librarians in the Cloud was the title of the first of these workshops that was held on 3 and 4 May 2017.

The aim of this two-day workshop was to assist libraries in providing career guidance. Ina Smith from ASSAf was tasked with equipping librarians with skills to develop a web page in support of career guidance. Susan Veldsman (ASSAf) spoke about women in science and Zukie Hlwatika (ASSAf) about career choices.

The second workshop was conducted by Tsepo Majake from ASSAf and focused on educators teaching mathematics, physical sciences, life sciences and life orientation from Grades 8 – 12. This workshop was held on 5 May 2017 and was open to all schools in the Mkhanyakude district. The workshop focused on contextualising science content and career development. Two teachers per school attended, representing the sciences and life orientation.

A career guidance session was conducted on 6 May 2017 at Kwa-Mabaso and some 1500 learners attended. ASSAf and a representative from the University of Pretoria conducted the session and each learner received a copy of the Quest science magazine.
