67 minutes at Malerato’s Centre for Hope

In commemoration of Mandela Day 2017 on 18 July 2017, ASSAf staff raised money to treat the children of Malerato’s Centre for Hope in Mamelodi. A Soup Day was held to raise funds to provide snacks and a jumping castle on the day. The children thoroughly enjoyed the jumping castle, which was deflated with far less enthusiasm than it was inflated! Importantly, there was a promise to return.

The centre is a children’s home run by Malerato that caters for 20 – 30 children on a full-time basis. “Malerato’s” has been a special consideration of ASSAf staff since 2010. In addition to this initiative for Mandela Day, several ASSAf staff members (and ex- colleagues) donate on a monthly basis to provide basic groceries for the centre. ASSAf also holds frequent fundraising drives like a Spring Day braai to subsidise the monthly grocery expenses and the year-end Christmas party.

Thank you to Lynette (and Deon) du Plessis for making the delicious soup and to our stalwart staff supporters for their ongoing monthly contributions.
