New Social Sciences & Education Associate Editor for SAJS

Prof Jennifer Case has been appointed as Associate Editor for Social Sciences & Education for the South African Journal of Science.

Case is Head and Professor in the Department of Engineering Education at Virginia Tech in Virginia, USA. She took up the position at Virginia Tech in 2017 and teaches in both the undergraduate and graduate programmes. She also is an honorary Professor at the University of Cape Town (UCT). She spent 21 years in the Department of Chemical Engineering at UCT, teaching in its undergraduate programmes and leading programme administration and curriculum reform. She attained full Professor status at UCT in 2012.

Case was elected a Member of ASSAf in 2009. She was the founding President of the South African Society for Engineering Education (2010–2013) and a Mandela Mellon Fellow at Harvard University (2011). She received the President’s Award from the National Research Foundation (South Africa) in 2006; a Distinguished Teachers’ Award from UCT in 2007; an Excellence in Teaching & Learning Award from the Higher Education Learning and Teaching Association of Southern Africa  in 2013; and a Meritorious Book Award from UCT in 2015.

She also is a Coordinating Editor for the journal Higher Education, a Co-editor for the Routledge/SRHE series Research into Higher Education, Subject Editor for the IChemE journal Education for Chemical Engineers, and Associate Editor for the European Journal of Engineering Education.

Her research on the student experience of learning, with a focus on science and engineering education, has been widely published.
