The 8th Annual Meeting of African Science Academies will be held in Nigeria from 12-14 November 2012. The focus of the meeting will be on impacts of climate change on the health and agricultural sectors. A planning meeting to discuss the scientific programme and conference outputs was held in Bellagio, Italy in February 2012. ASSAf was represented by Executive Officer, Professor Roseanne Diab.

These annual meetings of African science academies, initiated under the African Science Academies Development Initiative (ASADI) sponsored by the US National Academies, have become a regular and much anticipated event on the calendar of the African science academies, but the challenge is to sustain them into the future as the ASADI programme draws to a close. The final meeting funded by ASADI will be hosted by the Ethiopian Academy of Sciences in 2013. Thereafter, it is anticipated that these events will be hosted under the umbrella of the Network of African Science Academies (NASAC) and efforts are underway to seek funding to continue with these important networking events.
