The national platform for the open access publishing of high-quality South African scholarly journals (SciELO SA ) is in the process of adding another title to the platform, namely the South African Journal of Industrial Engineering. This will bring the number of titles on the platform to 23. Currently there are more than 186 issues and 2 986 articles on the SciELO SA platform.

Google Analytics indicates that at present the SciELO SA site is visited 1 435  times a day. The database is most visited by the following countries: South Africa, the United States of America, the United Kingdom, India, Canada, Germany, Philippines, Australia, Iran, Netherlands, Brazil, Malaysia, Indonesia and France. The following cities outside South Africa visited the database the most during January 2012: London, Bangalore, New Delhi, Manila, Chennai, Tehran, Kuala Lumpur, New York , Cairo, Nairobi, Sydney. A new contract is being negotiated with SciELO Brazil, including the transfer of all operational activities to ASSAf by mid-2012. Two staff members from SciELO Brazil will visit ASSAf from 16-20 April to train the three SciELO SA staff members. This will mean that the SciELO SA collection will then change from a ‘collection in development’ to an ‘independent collection’.
